NEWSBRIEF: UK – In an appeal by Women Scotland Ltd vs The Scottish Ministers, the UK Supreme Court judgement on who is a woman has been made with a unanimous declaration that the previous definition by Scottish Ministers under Equality Act 2010 is incorrect.

The Act 2010 included “certificated sex” which encompassed trans women.
The Women Scotland Ltd had appealed in 2023 but was dismissed by the Inner House which led them to appeal to the Supreme Court.
The UK Supreme Court has made its judgement today that a “woman,” refers to biological sex.
