The number of recorded measles cases in Texas has risen to 422 as of April 1, 2025.
New Cases Recorded in Two New Counties
From the Texas Department of State Health Services, Erath and Brown counties are the latest to record the outbreak.
The Texas measles outbreak was first discovered in Gains County in the late January, but now has started to spread to other areas.
Recorded Fatalities
As of April 1, there has only been one recorded death from measles in a child who was not vaccinated.
The outbreak is currently majorly being recorded to persons under 18 years old.
42 have been hospitalized since the outbreak.
Signs & Symptoms
Measles is highly contagious, and CDC have recommended Mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine as a lasting protection against measles virus.
After contact with the virus, symptoms start to appear between 7 to 14 days. The symptoms are as follow:
- Rash
- Red, watery eyes
- Cough
- Running nose
- High fever
